FAQ

How do I get connected with iLane in my car?

It’s simple. Get the 7100 Series in-car device, get a bundle and then pair up to your favorite hands-free system. You can buy the 7100 Series in-car device directly from us with a subscription or simply click Get iLane for more information!

Call us directly at 1.866.925.8021 for more information or to subscribe.

Does iLane work with my iPhone or Android smartphone?

Nope, not quite just yet. We are excited to announce that Android support is coming real soon and for now, iLane works seamlessly with any BlackBerry 8000+ smartphone including the Pearl®, the Curve®, the Storm®, the Bold® and just recently the Torch®.

Stay tuned for Mobile Gateway compatibility for the iPhone as well.

How much do the bundles cost?

For starter’s the Always Connected bundle is full of the core Services and Apps that you need in your car. Check out the Subscribe Now section for more information.

Wait, how do I actually interact with all these apps and services?

Once you’ve paired up to your favorite hands-free system the rest is unbelievably easy – use your voice to simply pull up the different apps including email, for instance, and then use simple commands like Next, Forward and Mark Unread to glide through your inbox.

If you’re stuck, say Options and iLane will give you some of the available commands for that application.

Do I have to pair up every time I get in the car?

Once you’ve paired up the first time, be sure to select ‘Do Not Ask Next Time” in your Bluetooth® setup. The 7100 will recognize you’ve entered the range, check your Gateway and you’ll hear ‘Connected’ – meaning you can sit back and have comfort knowing your fully connected while you drive.

Does the 7100 In-Car device draw power when my vehicle is parked?

Nope, the 7100 detects the ignition and power in your vehicle and stays on or shuts off appropriately. If you’re vehicle’s still on and you’re picking up a snack from the convenience store – iLane will seamlessly hand off the call to your smartphone until you’re back in range [Bluetooth range is typically 25 to 50 ft.].

Does iLane have to learn my voice?

iLane has been recognized worldwide for it’s best in class voice-user interface and we continue to work relentlessly to ensure you have the best iLane experience. The iLane VIAS will listen for commands that are intelligible – meaning as long as you’re speaking aloud, she’ll be able to recognize your voice and respond.

Try adjusting the mic-sensitivity on your 7100 if you’re having trouble with the recognition rate.

You can also teach iLane to speak by saying ‘Provide Feedback’ any time to record the proper recording of unique names and words.

What other in-car devices are available?

The 7100 Series is available across North America today and is designed for the ultimate in car experience. Whether you’re paired up to your car or your favorite Bluetooth® headset, the 7100 can stay tucked in your console or glove-compartment while you drive.

The 6100 Series is also available for those interested in a complete kit – hands-free headset + in-car device. Note that iLane VIAS upgrades and new apps and services are not supported by the 6100 Series in-car device.

Is iLane server-based? How do I know my stuff stays in my personal and work firewall?

The iLane VIAS lives inside the 7100 in-car device and ensures the good stuff never leaves your personal or work firewall. Messages, contacts, calendar, you name it; they all stay right where your IT guy wants you to keep them, on your smartphone.

See Security for details.

Why do I need a Mobile Gateway?

Your iLane Mobile Gateway tells the 7100 that you’re the right person every time you enter the vehicle. Not only that, the Mobile Gateway is also you’re passport to custom settings, applications and downloads that will ensure you have the best experience.

Can I use iLane in other vehicles?

Absolutely, the in-car device is portable and can be used by a few people in your household or business. Your iLane passport is the Mobile Gateway; it tells the in-car device who you are, and what bundle you’ve got. If you’re renting a car and want to bring iLane for the ride, simply unplug the in-car device and connect to what ever hands-free system you’d like and you’ll still be fully connected to your world of iLane services and apps while you drive.
